Play by Play
Starting with calling games into a tape recorder alongside my dad back in the 1970s, I began to hone my call of live play by play. To me, calling the game is the best gig in sports. You are the historian, the painter, the gatekeeper for the game. I am not a homer, but I am a positive voice, looking for the next great possibility for the fans listening. Here are a few of the places I've called games, starting in 1980: HS Game of the Week in Atlanta, Orange County and Shasta County (football), Georgia State University (baseball, men's and women's basketball, hockey), Chattanooga Lookouts AA (baseball), CS Fullerton Titans (baseball), Long Beach Stingrays (women's pro basketball), Redding Colt 45s (baseball). I've had the pleasure of working with the Angels in the MLB to put together a pbp reel for a job I didn't get, and even though the shot at the bigs may never come at this point in my career, my experience working in places like L-A, sidelines with the NBA's Thunder and even the smallest of locations calling prep or youth games reminds me that the game's always the thing that matters most.
